Responsibilities to implement the Goa Daman & Diu Official Language Act 1987 and schemes for development of languages prevalent in the State. Considering the importance of regional languages, the State Legislative Assembly enacted the Goa Daman & Diu Official Language Act, 1987 on Feb.4, 1987, by which Konkani Language in Devnagri script was declared as the Official Language of the State of Goa. There is a provision under Section 3(1) to use Marathi language for all or any of the official purposes, while, under Section 4, English Language continues to be used in addition to the above languages.
